Pody Method 5: Launch Strategy — 3 Episodes, Not 1
5. Launch Strategy
Quick answer: A podcast launching with just episode 1 loses 73% of potential listeners. Reason: Apple Podcasts and Spotify recommendation algorithms need at least 3 active episodes to start recommending the podcast in category discovery. Right launch: publish 3 episodes on launch day (episode 1 easy, episode 2 strong, episode 3 with guest), then weekly cadence. Doubles organic discovery in first 2-3 months.
Why 3, not 1?
Apple Podcasts algorithm checks 3 things before recommending a podcast: (1) at least 3 episodes exist, (2) published at consistent cadence, (3) positive download trajectory. Publishing episode 1 then episode 2 a week later means the algorithm only starts tracking from episode 2, missing a week of signal.
Episode order at launch
- Episode 1 — "The Story". Who you are, why this podcast, what they'll get. 8-12 minutes. Easy to produce. This is your long-form trailer.
- Episode 2 — "The Value". Best episode you could produce in your first month. Sells or wins back the listener from episode 1.
- Episode 3 — "The Proof". Interview with a known figure in the field. A listener who doesn't know you yet will come for the guest. That's how you grow.
Where Pody fits
Pody lets you schedule all 3 episodes in advance (publishes automatically at set times), with a RSS feed reaching Apple+Spotify on launch day at 9 AM. Each episode with full Podcasting 2.0 metadata. This is the difference between "professional launch" and "I uploaded something somewhere".
