4. Archive Policy
Quick answer: Every episode uploaded to Pody is automatically uploaded to archive.org (Internet Archive). Unique identifier per podcast: pody-[slug]-[id8]. Timing: auto-upload within 24 hours of episode publish. If Pody disappears tomorrow — your RSS feeds on Apple Podcasts and Spotify keep working, because enclosure URLs already point to archive.org. We're the only platform that does this by default. Not a tactic — a stance.
Why this matters
Anchor was acquired by Spotify in 2019 and has changed its services multiple times since. Podcasters without an independent RSS feed lost access to their podcasts. Distribute, another podcast platform, shut down in 2023 — podcasters lost history. This market isn't stable. Pody is built differently.
How Pody guarantees permanence
- Every episode uploaded to archive.org within 24 hours. Automatic, nothing to do.
- Your RSS includes primary Pody URLs + archive.org fallback. If Pody disappears, apps detect URL failure and fall back to archive.org.
- Unique identifier per podcast. Once stamped, permanent. Cannot be changed (not even by Pody).
- If Pody shuts down — automatic notice. All podcast owners receive direct URL to their archive.org item + instructions to migrate to another hosting platform.
