Pody Method 2: Recording Setup — What You Need
2. Recording Setup
What you actually need, what to skip. Gear for ₪1,500 that sounds pro.
Quick answer: Basic pro setup for podcasting in 2026: dynamic XLR mic (Shure SM58 / RODE PodMic — ₪600), USB audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett Solo — ₪550), closed headphones (Audio-Technica M30x — ₪350). Total ₪1,500. Sounds better than 90% of podcasts. Don't buy a Shure SM7B (₪2,200) for episode 1 — it requires a Cloudlifter +₪600 and won't differentiate without acoustic treatment.
The common mistake: buying too much upfront
92% of beginner podcasters who quit after 5 episodes invested ₪8,000+ in gear they didn't know how to use. They bought an SM7B that needs a preamp, a RODECaster Pro that needs learning, an untreated room — and got worse audio than their phone. The phone, by the way, is fine for a test episode. Always.
Three setup tiers
- Tier 0 (test episode): iPhone and Voice Memos. Cost: ₪0. For an episode or two, to test if the podcast works.
- Tier 1 (standard): Shure SM58 + Focusrite Solo + Audio-Technica M30x. Cost: ₪1,500. Clean standard for 2 years of work.
- Tier 2 (pro): Shure SM7B + Cloudlifter + RODECaster Duo + AT M40x + room acoustic treatment. Cost: ₪8,000-15,000. Only if you have podcast revenue.
Why dynamic, not condenser?
Condenser sounds cleaner in an acoustic studio. Dynamic is more forgiving of a home room. If you're recording in a living room, bedroom, or untreated space — dynamic is the choice. Most podcasters who switch from condenser to dynamic get "finally I hear you, not the room" feedback.
Where Pody fits
